News and Happenings of The Friends of Gathland State Park

ANNUAL MEETING AND ELECTIONS

Membership Meetings At the annual meeting, the question of frequency of membership meetings was brought up.  While we have a fair number of members in the area, attendance at meetings is sporadic.  The membership agreed that two meetings a year (March and Sept.) would be sufficient, and an effort will be made to have several guest speakers at other times throughout the year.  If any member know an interesting speaker, please contact Joe Motter.

The annual meeting was held on September 18th.   Joe Motter was reelected Vice

'Gath' Cigars

The cigars arrived and the commemorative boxes, as well as the singles, are quite distinctive.  Frederick Magazine will feature them as their November 'Hot Pick'.  The cigars  are now available at Trout Liquor and Greenbrier State Park or may be ordered by mail through FOG's Web site.  Local members can call Marge Magruder  to fill orders.  So far, feedback has been very positive regarding the quality of the cigars. So consider a box as an unusual and memorable Christmas gift for your cigar-loving friends.

President and Marge Magruder elected as Treasurer.  Debbie Parr remains Secretary.  Tim McCown was elected to the Board and Darce Easton was re-appointed as a Board member.  The office of the President remains vacant and Joe Motter will function as Acting President.  The Board and members presented Marge Magruder with a plaque of appreciation for her 5 years as V. Pres. and President, as well as a beautiful pitcher and 4 mugs from Van Gilder's Pottery.  Additionally, Anne Long and Chuck Wierer were recognized; Anne for her untiring efforts as Volunteer Coordinator and Chuck for volunteering twice a month as docent for the past 4 years.  They were each presented with a framed picture of scenes at Gathland painted by a visiting South American artist.   After the meeting, members adjourned to the pavilion to enjoy a picnic lunch and good fellowship.

Happenings in the Park

The Civil War Living History Weekend in September did not draw the crowds we had hoped for, as there were many other events in the county that
